Four masters of the tradition, Missy Raines on bass, Mike Compton on mandolin, David Grier on guitar and Shad Cobb on fiddle, break the boundaries of what stringbands normally do and forge their own path in bluegrass, blues and acoustic music. Their music is high-energy roots Americana, flavored in tradition while simultaneously creating their own unique brand of modern stringband music.

TONY TRISCHKA & BRITTANY HAAS

Tony Trischka is considered to be the consummate banjo artist and perhaps the most influential banjo player in the roots music world. For more than 45 years, his stylings have inspired a whole generation of bluegrass and acoustic musicians with the many voices he has brought to the instrument. Tony is joined by Brittany Haas, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential fiddlers of her generation.

TRAVERS CHANDLER & AVERY COUNTY

Bluegrass Concert Series

One of the few mandolinists in bluegrass who plays in the traditional style, Travers has been hailed the “king of tremolo” and “one of the best traditional musicians in bluegrass.” His music at times often fuses the old honky tonk country of his country music heroes such as George Jones, Wayne Kemp, Vernon Oxford and Mel Street. Travers has also taken top honors in mandolin at the Mt Airy Fiddler's Convention, Allegheny Fiddlers Convention in Sparta NC and The Old Fiddler's Convention in Galax,Virginia.

ERNIE EVANS & THE FLORIDA STATE BLUEGRASS BAND

Ernie Evans and The Florida State Bluegrass Band represent what fans expect from bluegrass music today – an ability to bridge the gap between contemporary and traditional styles. Known for their strong lead vocals, classic hits, and ability to entertain their audiences, The Florida State Bluegrass Band is rapidly gaining a widespread fan base across the United States.

NOTHIN' FANCY

Headliner - Bluegrass Concert Series

July 18, 2015 at 8pm

From the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, comes one of the most entertaining bands in the bluegrass genre and our series finale headliner, Nothin’ Fancy. Winner of SPBGMA’s award for Entertaining Group of the Year six times, this band has released eleven full-length albums, and have performed at festivals all across the United States, Canada and Norway.

SOLIS BRAVO BAND IN CONCERT

August 22, 2015 at 8pm

The Solis Bravo Band brings their smooth sounds of jazz, big band, bossa nova, Latin and R&B to the Garden Theatre stage – with Carlos Solis on acoustic guitar, Latin Grammy-nominated Jerry Bravo on bass and Latin Grammy award-winning Richard Bravo on percussion.
